Cartagena de Indias is a city that is located on the Caribbean Coast in the north of Colombia, and is the capital of the Bolivar department.
In Cartagena you can constantly find activities to enjoy and have fun to the fullest. The sea, the breeze and the sun will always be part of the experience. The main and best beaches are found on the islands of Rosario, Barú, and San Bernardo.
As you walk by the main streets, you will realize that the city has the charm of colonial architecture. Cartagena nights were made for dancing, from Caribbean rhythms to African and Cuban ones.
When you travel to this beautiful city you will visit places like San Felipe de Barajas Castle, San Pedro Claver Church, Plaza de la Aduana, Palacio de la Inquisicion, Museo Naval and the Historic Downtown, whose cultural importance was acknowledged in 1984 when UNESCO declared it Historical and Cultural Patrimony of the World.
Many importants events take place in Cartagena all year long. One of those is the International Music Festival, or Hay Festival, which is celebrated in January and brings together the main proponents of instrumental music and international literature.
Another significant event is The International Film Festival, which is attended by cinematographers, actors, musicians, and aficionados of the seventh art, is also held yearly in the ‘Heroic City,’ in March. One of the Festival’s main attractions is that it offers free high-quality film showings.
Finally, Cartagena is also known for being home to Colombia’s National Beauty Contest, which is held in November to select and crown a Miss Colombia.
